Project Background

This project was focused on Alexa integration for our customer’s smart home appliance suite. Our customer’s business objective was to bring innovation and automation to the consumer’s home where simple voice commands could start, stop or change the settings of a variety of their products including coffee makers, microwave ovens, cooking ranges, washers and dryers. Furthermore, by leveraging Amazon Integrations, by simply talking to Alexa the consumer could not only control these appliances but also reorder via Amazon Dash when supplies are running low.

What we did

The business objectives and the marketplace mandate for integrating Alexa in our customer’s smart home appliance suite were very clearly defined by their top management. We put together a team led by our veterans in the consumer space and they were supported by a very capable team with engineering experience in home appliances and Alexa integration. We had a very structured process for knowledge acquisition from the customer’s engineering, purchasing, sales and marketing personnel. Once the implementation, testing and validation were successfully completed we had one of the highest ratings from our customer.

What we did

We put together a highly talented multidisciplinary team to realize our customer’s vision for this very innovative product. The team comprised of domain experts and practitioners in product design, embedded systems, machine vision, data analytics and edge computing. We developed multiple high level concepts and evaluation criteria for the driver safety and health monitoring system. Once we had architected and engineered the system we developed prototypes which were successfully field tested under a variety of terrains. Our performance on this project was rated at the top by our customer including awarding us 9.5/10 for innovation.

What we did

We created an offshore development center for our customer with specific focus on two broad areas: new product development and legacy product support. Our technical teams were dedicated to our product portfolio which included product design, embedded systems, VA/VE, global sourcing, data analytics, cloud enablement and application software. We developed a dedicated knowledge management system for our product portfolio and this was populated with the knowhow transitioned from the customer to our ODC team. As our center matured we archived our new findings and lessons learned in our knowledge vault which became a reservoir for existing engineers and a training ground for new engineers as the center expanded. We have an extremely satisfied customer and partner since we have been able to exceed all their expectations on business and technical metrics.
